Voice: Birds are song-carriers; Ecofeminism sometimes frames women as carriers of wisdom, warning or harmony with the environment (like the canary in the coal-mine).

Connection to nature: calling women 'birds' ties them to the natural world, reinforcing eco-feminist ideas that women are closer to nature than man.

So, within eco-feminism the label is less an insult. In everyday English slang "bird" (mainly UK/Australia) is an informal word for woman / girlfriend.

It can sound outdated or sexist today, since it reduces women to a casual label (like "chick").
